General hazards
As well as the specific hazards listed above,
there are many general hazards on the farm which can cause harm.
Some examples are:
- People working in jandals.
- Equipment and hoses left where people can trip over them.
- Welding or grinding without any eye protection.
- Tractors which do not have roll over protection.
- Reversing a tractor without looking back to see where the machine
is going.
- Uneven floor surface in a workshop may cause people to trip.
Some ways you can reduce the risk from general hazards
on a farm:
- Isolate dangerous animals in suitably fenced areas.
- Make sure that farm buildings and sheds are kept clean and tidy.
- Make sure that oil, grease and other liquids are cleaned up as soon
as they are spilt.
- Tie off ladders to ensure stability.
- Handle chainsaws with care and follow safety directions provided by
the manufacturer.
- Keep all machinery guards in place.
- Ensure farm gates are closed when not in use.
