Tyre Fitters - Health and Safety Guidelines for

This guide draws on an earlier Department of Labour booklet Tyre Safety, which since 1988 has been a standard reference for the tyre industry. It has been updated to take account of changes in technology and new safety issues such as anticipating zippers in the sudden failure of steel-reinforced sidewalls, and safety rules for wheel alignments on vehicles fitted with air bags. Other health and safety issues include the use of antifreeze in tyres, choice of tyres and combinations of tyres.

There is additional information on managing hazards of lifting, and hazards of noise. We have attempted to define the boundary between The Department of labour and the Land Transport Safety Authority (LTSA), both regulators with interests in tyre safety.
