Forklifts and Carbon Monoxide - A Deadly Mix

Carbon monoxide can kill without warning. Fuel-powered forklifts using LPG, petrol or diesel emit the deadly gas which can quickly build up in a confined space where there is little or no ventilation.

It’s odourless, has no taste and cannot be detected without special monitoring equipment so people can become exposed to carbon monoxide without realising it.

If you are using fuel-powered forklifts in a confined space, such as a cool store you should use an electric-powered forklift. If this isn’t possible or if carts and trolleys can’t be used you should:
