Industrial Rope Access in New Zealand: Best Practice Guidelines

May 2012

The Best Practice Guidelines for Industrial Rope Access in New Zealand [pdf 1.66MB] have been designed to provide best practice advice for safe rope access techniques, the design installation and certification of permanent anchors and anchor systems, and the selection and maintenance of rope access equipment.

The guidelines apply to all employers, employees and the self-employed engaging in rope access work, as well as to people who contract or commission rope access work.

Please note: these guidelines do not apply to the following situations or industries:

The guidelines emphasise the importance of planning rope access work with safety always in mind, prior to the work commencing (section 3).  A range of safety forms have been included in the guideline to assist with safety planning (appendix 1).  In addition, the guidelines provide key information on the safe use of rope access equipment, including anchor systems (section 5), safe working methods (section 6) and emergencies/rescue (section 7).

These guidelines have been prepared by the Industrial Rope Access Association of New Zealand (IRAANZ) and endorsed by the Department of Labour.
