Question 1: Is a mechanical removal method to be used?

Answer 1: No

  1. Remove furnishings within 2 m of the affected area
  2. Cover floor with plastic sheet for 1 m around work area
  3. Ventilate the room
  4. Evacuate the room if occupied
  5. Don protective clothing and equipment
  6. Remove paint manually by scraping or chemical treatment
  7. Dispose of accumulated debris daily and on completion
  8. HEPA vacuum and wet-wipe the affected surfaces. Dispose of waste
  9. Remove plastic dust sheet and proceed with redecoration
  10. ENDS

Answer 1: Yes

Question 2: Can the dust hazard be contained in one room?

Answer 2: No

  1. Evacuate building if occupied
  2. Remove furniture and soft furnishings. Cover remaining furniture and carpet
  3. Seal doors, windows and ventilators to outdoors
  1. Don protective clothing and equipment and proceed with removal
  2. Decontaminate daily during removal work by HEPA vacuuming and wet-wipe
  3. Decontaminate on completion - HEPA and wet-wipe.Dispose of waste
  4. Remove containment and proceed with redecoration
  5. ENDS

Answer 2: Yes

  1. Evacuate room if occupied
  2. Remove furniture and soft furnishings. Cover remaining furniture and carpet
  3. Seal doors, windows and ventilators to other rooms and outdoors
  4. Don protective clothing and equipment and proceed with removal
  5. Decontaminate daily during removal work by HEPA vacuuming and wet-wipe
  6. Decontaminate on completion - HEPA and wet-wipe.Dispose of waste
