Question 1: Is a mechanical removal method to be used?
Answer 1: No
- Clear items from within 2 m of the affected area
- Cover ground with plastic sheet for about 1 m around work area
- Remove manually by scraping, chemical treatment or heat removal
- Dispose of acumulated debris daily and on completion
- ENDS
Answer 1: Yes
Question 2: Can the work area be contained to prevent drift of paint fragments and dust?
Answer 2: No
- Use only a “wet” or heat gun removal method (or machine sanding with HEPA filter)
- Cover ground around the work area as far as practicable with a plastic sheet
- Seal door, window and ventilator openings of buildings (including neighbours) as necessary
- Don protective clothing and equipment and proceed with removal work
- Decontaminate area and treated surface daily during removal work
- Decontaminate area and treated surface on completion by HEPA vacuuming/wet-wipe
- ENDS
Answer 2: Yes
- Use “dry” removal method
- Contain the work area using tenting or sheeting and ground sheet
- Seal door, window and ventilator openings of buildings (including neighbours) as necessary
- Don protective clothing and equipment and proceed with removal work
- Decontaminate area and treated surface daily during removal work
- Decontaminate area and treated surface on completion by HEPA vacuuming/wet-wipe
